Lord Zedd in Video Games
--Super Nintendo: "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Fighting Edition" (1995)

This was the first game to allow you to take control of Lord Zedd, and though it was too short and easy to complete, it was great fun for the Zedd-factor - especially when you see his move-sets! Add to this the fact that Lord Zedd's stage features a gorgeous Serpentera backdrop and and it's a win-win situation for all us Zeddophiles! (And Goldar's in there, too.) It's a pity you can only play as Zords and not the Rangers -- but one can always go back to the classic Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Megadrive/Genesis game for a bit of Ranger fun!

--Nintendo DS: "Power Rangers: Super Legends" (2007)

Celebrating 15 years of Morphin madness, the "Super Legends" game on the DS (and similarly on the PS2 and PC) brings many of the various incarnations of the Power Rangers and their evil adversaries from the multitude of series together for a mad-cap adventure. Zedd is one of the main antagonists so classic PR fans, who have been waiting for the Emperor of Evil to reclaim his crown of "kick-ass villain", will be fairly pleased to see him somewhat get his dues.

The DS game is a little tricky (try juggling the stylus to destroy fallen Z-putties whilst continuing to button-bash the others that are surrounding you!), and is full of repetitive and nonsensical 3D flight sequences - but still, for nostalgia and the novelty of seeing so many different generations of Power Rangers all in one game, it's priceless. (It makes me feel quite old, to be frank - 15 years already? And counting!)

Lord Zedd returns (at about 9 feet tall!) for "Super Legends" on the Nintendo DS! (Image c/o IGN.com)

I'll give my final judgement of the DS "Super Legends" once I reach the end of the game. (I'm nearly there! I'm chasing Zedd through the "Hall of Legends"!) I have just finished playing the Playstation 2 version, which is a little different structure-wise, and features less Ranger-worlds, but has Goldar in it! Yay! (Even if his voiceover is terrible...). I am a bit disappointed that the team behind the PS2 version failed to bring Robert Axelrod back for the voice of Lord Zedd. I'm sure he would have been all too happy to do it if they'd only had the courtesy and intelligence to find him.

The PS2 game is, in conclusion, rather too repetitive (like the DS one), and it's not particularly well-made, either, with unhelpful camera angles and some some areas which are difficult because of poor design rather than the player being at fault. I also felt that it was too short and too easy, *but* it still gives me a buzz to play as several different Rangers (especially the Mighty Morphin ones!) and see Lord Zedd again. It's an added bonus that Zedd is playing the evil-game on his own once more (yay for bachelor Zedd!), and showing some fine-form! Hail teh Emperor! Come back to us again soon. :D

NB: There is also a PC version of the "Super Legends" game but I won't be playing that one. I presume it's similar to the PS2 version. Feel free to let me know what it's like if you own it, or send in your screencaps of Zedd from the game (if you have any, and would like to share). I'll give due credit to any contributors.

Other games featuring Zedd:

I'm sure he'll be in other classic PR games - I'll keep searching. :)
